Although it has been reported that emboli from atherosclerotic disease may be more frequent than commonly appreciated, hepatic infarction caused by an arterial embolus is an unusual but serious complication. The authors describe a patient who had a secondary liver infarct during anticoagulant treatment for cerebral infarction. The thrombus causing the liver infarction was detected as a low echoic mass by transesophageal echocardiog raphy at the right coronary sinus.
