Division of Cardiology, Baragwanath Hospital, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa Two cases of Takayasu's arteritis with severe renovascular hypertension are described. Both patients underwent successful percutaneous balloon angioplasty with attenuation of the systemic hypertensive response. The role of angioplasty as an alternative to surgery for revascularization of symptomatic ischemia in this disease is reviewed.
