Ergonovine Provocation in Post Partum Myocardial Infarction

Deeb N. Salem

Jeffrey M. Isner

Patricia Hopkins

Marvin A. Konstam

Medicine and Radiology, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts

Post-partum myocardial infarction is rare and the pathophysiology obscure. This report describes a 30-year-old lactating female in whom an infero-lateral wall myocardial infarction was documented 5 months following a normal pregnancy and delivery. Coronary angiography revealed normal coro nary arteries, a finding described previously in 3 such patients. Contrary to previous speculations, however, provocative testing with ergonovine pro duced no evidence of coronary artery spasm.
