Standardization of Venous Distensibility Measurements in Plethysmography

From Mermansstraat 4, 2300 Turinhout, Belgium

This paper comprises a summary of the literature on plethysmography, of study objectives, techniques, and interpretation of methods. The venous distension plethysmography is suitable for the evaluation of clinical venous pathology, but a standardization of the method is urgently needed. The test schedule is described, explained, and discussed. Some questions arising from the test schedule and some ideas that should be more closely discussed are offered.
